What type of organization is LRRNT?

Labrador Retriever Rescue of North Texas (LRRNT) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to making a significant impact in purebred Labrador Retriever Rescue work. Our scope will cover the North Texas area, with particular emphasis on the Dallas and Fort Worth Metroplex.

Where are you located so I can see the dogs?

We do not have a facility (the address on our website is a mailing address only). All our dogs are in foster homes. If you would like to see some of our dogs, we have several Rescue Information Booths a month. For times and locations, Click Here.

What area do you service?

We service the immediate Dallas and Fort Worth metropolitan area and any community that is within a comfortable one hour drive.

Adoption Information

What is your criteria for adoption?

Here are some basic LRRNT adopter requirements:

• Adopters must be a minimum of 21 years of age
• Adopter must live in the DFW metropolitan area and any community that is within a comfortable one hour drive.
• The dog will be kept as an "inside dog".
• Willing to crate the dog indoors, especially for the first month.
• Yard must be fenced.
• The dog will not be left alone for long periods of time on a regular basis.
• Willing to take dog to basic obedience classes.
• Provide regular veterinary care.
• Other dog(s) must be neutered or spayed.

How much is your adoption fee?

Our adoption fee is $250. All our dogs are up to date on their shots, spay or neutered and micro chipped. Puppy adoption fee is $350, $50 is refunded upon proof of spaying or neutering.

Do you have an installment plan for the adoption fee?

We do not accept any installments. We feel that if you can not afford the adoption fee then you are not financially ready to adopt a Lab. It costs in excess of $800 per year to care for a Lab.

I have submitted my application, what is the next step?

Your application will be reviewed by the Adoptions Coordinator, who will contact you. Please allow a few days for your application to be processed. Once your application has been approved a home study time will be set up. After the home study you will be notified as to whether you have been approved to adopt or not.

What is a home study?

A home study involves two LRRNT volunteers coming to visit your home. The potential adoptive dog may or may not be brought along during the home study. The volunteers will check your yard, making sure it meets the requirements. This meeting allows the potential adoptive family to spend time with the Lab and ask any questions or concerns they may have. Also, the volunteers can observe how the Lab interacts with the family and/or other pets. From the home study, the volunteers then can determine if the Lab is the perfect fit for your family.

How much does a Lab cost per year in food, toys and vet bills?

Factoring in a premium food (which a Lab can eat quite a bit of), fetch and chew toys, shots and heartworm preventative, a Lab can conservatively cost in excess of $800 per year.

Can an older dog/Lab bond with a new owner?

Absolutely, many of our fosters report that Labs, and especially rescued Labs, tend to bond quickly. The breed has been bred to please humans and they strive to meet that end.

Isn't a puppy going to be a a better dog for us?

Maybe, but with an older dog, you get to see the true personality of the adult Lab. A puppy may or may not have the traits you are looking for. With the help of our fosters we can help to match the perfect dog with the best family.

You also get to skip the destruction that puppyhood entails. In fact one of our fosters considers puppyhood the necessary evil that must be endured to get to adulthood. An adult rescue Lab lets you skip the often frustrating time in a Labs life.

Fostering, Volunteering, Donation Information

What is a permanent foster home?

Foster families are the life blood and unsung heroes of our organization. Our ability to rescue our beloved Labrador Retrievers is limited by the number of safe havens we have for them while we search for the perfect adoptive "forever home".

A permanent foster must meet the same criteria as an adopter. A home study will be performed before a foster home is accepted. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please fill out an application. Click here for application

I am interested in volunteering. How can I help?

There are many ways you can help! You can become a foster, volunteer for rescue information booth days and help spread the word, help evaluate adoptable dogs and conduct home studies. Click here to learn about more volunteer opportunities. Click here for application.

How can do I make a donation?

All donations are tax deductible under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We accept monetary donations along with bedding, toys, food, crates, collars, leashes, etc. and working office equipment such as computers, fax equipment, scanners, laminators, paper, etc. Click here to contact us or if you wish to make an online donation please click the "Donate" button.

You can also donate items for our semi-annual garage sale. All proceeds from our garage sales go to Labrador Retriever Rescue of North Texas...you didn't want that old garage sale stuff anyway!

What does my tax deductible donation fund?

Monetary donations are used exclusively for veterinary expenses (ie shots, heartworm treatments, spaying/neutering, etc) and training.
